FEM Conferences have unearthed a huge hunger for feminism in the UK. They have demonstrated a wealth of fantastic feminist activism currently taking place, and revealed a new generation of activists proudly coming forward to join the struggle against gender inequality.


FEM 04 - Saturday 6 November 2004
Run on grand budget total of £180, FEM 04 was the first FEM Conference. 90 people made the trip to Sheffield to take part.

Speakers included: Dr Katherine Rake, Director of the Fawcett Society; Anne Quesney, Director of Abortion Rights; and representatives from Womankind Worldwide, Anti-slavery International, and Refuge.

 

 


FEM 05 - Saturday 5 November 2005
Over 10 months hard work by a dedicated group of volunteers went in to organising FEM 05. And it was worth it. The event was a 'sell-out' - with over 400 women and men attending. The six most popular words chosen by delegates to describe the event were interesting, enjoyable, well presented, valuable, stimulating, and motivating.

Speakers included: Kate Allen, Director of Amnesty International UK; Rebecca Gill, TUC Women's Officer; Jeff Hearn, Swedish School of Economics; and Zlakha Ahmed, Apna Haq.

FEM 07 - Saturday 10 March 2007

FEM 07 was another sell-out, with 400 women and men travelling from over 64 different towns and cities to take part. The most popular rating chosen by delegates to individually rate various aspects of the conference was 'very good' - the highest available rating.

Speakers included: Jennifer Williams, Women of Zimbabwe Arise; Damian Carnell, Nottinghamshire Domestic Violence Forum; John Morrison, Acid Survivors; Meena Patel, Southall Black Sisters; and Pinky Lilani, Asian Women of Achievement Awards.

FEM 08 - Saturday 26 April 2008
Over 500 women and men attended the biggest FEM Conference yet. The six words most frequently chosen by delegates to describe the conference were interesting, motivating, inspiring, enjoyable, stimulating and valuable. The most popular rating chosen by delegates to best describe their overall impression of the conference was 'very good' - the highest available rating.

Speakers included: Germaine Greer; Kira Cochrane, the Guardian; Julie Bindel; Joella Hazel, Fawcett Society; and Thomas Schultz, Oxfam.
